About Our Compounding Pharmacy in Illinois
Our mission is to meet the pharmaceutical needs of our patients (human & animal) with the highest quality of customized medication available. Wauconda Pharmacy has been a local family-owned business for over 100 years. Charles F. Buschick purchased the pharmacy from Charlie Haller in the 1930s and then sold it to Bill Lacey in the 1950s. Lacey owned it until the 1970s when he sold it to Ed Bruner. After 30 years, his son, Terry, took over the business and still owns it today. The pharmacy has gone back to working as a more traditional pharmacy by compounding prescriptions (using custom drug formulations to better meet a patient’s needs). In 2005, Wauconda Pharmacy built a state-of-the-art compounding lab and added a U.S.P. 800 compliant lab in 2020.

What is Compounding?
Throughout history, people have made compounds, or custom-blended medications: the Bible even makes mention of medicinal ointments dispensed by a physician. These days, most prescriptions that people take are a “one size fits all” solution. The problem with this is that what works for one person won’t work for all; individuals have their own medical needs. We work to meet the needs of each patient. Discontinued combinations of drugs through a traditional prescription can now be made again. These customized compounds allow us to better serve patients. Even better, many medications can be combined into one treatment: creams, capsules, and more.

Pharmacy Compounding
Compounding brings to mind a more traditional kind of pharmacy, one where a well-trained pharmacist uses a deep knowledge of medicine to formulate medications to order for each patient’s needs. For example, the prescribing physician may be able to order medications in the form of suppositories, emulsions, and eye, ear, and nose drops instead of pills or caplets. That gives the patient more options.

Veterinarians know all to well that it is much harder to prescribe dosages for animals based on size and weight; and as pet owners we know how hard it is to get pets to take his/her medications.
