What is Veterinary Compounding?

Compounding is the process of altering or combining two or more drugs or medicines in a particular way that suits the needs of the patient. Veterinary compounding is this very process, but for your furry family members. Pets need medication too, and finding medicine on the market that will suit your pet’s specific needs can be difficult, if not impossible. That’s where we come in. Our experienced compounders can find a solution for you.

Several situations and conditions of an animal could require a solution that simply doesn’t exist in the current veterinary drug market. An alternative route for medicine is often needed, like in the examples below.

• An allergy to a dye or other substance in a medication could make it unusable for an animal, but we can remove the unwanted ingredient.
• If your pet has a specific condition that requires ear drops, for example, but the medicine they need only comes in pill form, we can create ear drops out of the medicine they need.
• As veterinarians can attest, finding medicine dosage specific to your pet’s weight and size can be challenging. Veterinary compounding allows for specific dosage that isn’t always available on the current market.
• If you have trouble getting your pet to ingest their medicine, we can change the flavor or form of their medicine to something more enticing for them.
